I have long been fascinated by railways, their infrastructure, geographical and historical context, and the ways they shape regions and everyday life. Over the years, I have traveled across more than 60 countries using trains as the primary way to experience places.
My journeys have taken me across an extraordinary range of rail systems and geographies – from railways in Russia and the far east of Siberia on the Trans-Siberian and Trans-Mongolian Railways, to conventional and high-speed trains across China, train travel in Southeast Asia, extensive rail journeys in India, Europe, and the United States, and smaller but memorable rail experiences in South America.
